". . . artists,
the more conscious they are of their 'gift,' are led all the more to see
themselves and the whole of creation with eyes able to contemplate and
give thanks, and to raise to God a hymn of praise. This is the only way
for them to come to a full understanding of themselves, their vocation
and their mission."
--His Holiness Pope John Paul II Letter
of His Holiness Pope John Paul II to Artists, 1999.
Catacombers is a Catholic apostolate supporting Catholic artists in the
creation of works that enhance faithfulness to the Church, its teachings
and leadership, and reverence in Catholic liturgical worship. We wish
to encourage our Catholic brethren attending and serving at standard Catholic
parishes to use their time and talents to restore His House (per St. Francis
of Assisi) making it more orthodox, liturgically sound, and respectful
of the ancient ways of the Christian church.
We also encourage
them to make a spiritual masterpiece of their lives" for as John
Paul II also writes in his 1999 letter to artists:
"Not all are called to be artists in the specific sense of the
term. Yet, as Genesis has it, all men and women are entrusted with the
task of crafting their own life: in a certain sense, they are to make
of it a work of art, a masterpiece."
To this end, we accept articles and other means of creative expression
to inspire our Catholic brothers and sisters in keeping and living the
Catholic faith to its fullest. Users who wish to share these items can
submit them to the webmaster for review. (Please remember to follow our
terms of use when submitting materials.) We have an art gallery to post your work and
we will publish written works and poetry as we grow (all rights to which remain
with the creators).
We also have several message forums here for our users to share ideas,
among them are: a musicians forum, an artisans forum, a writers forum, a performing arts forum,
a marriage/parenting forum, a consolation/support forum, a singles forum,
a forum for catechesis/faith formation and the open mic forum a place
where all talents meet.
So come on in, join us and draw on the walls!
